The nomination period for the 2026 municipal election opens at 8:30 a.m. today, May 1, 2026.
Local decisions need local leaders. Running for municipal or school board office is an opportunity to bring your experience and ideas forward to help shape the future of our community. Candidates may run for the position of mayor, councillor or school board trustee.
Candidate eligibility
To run for Quinte West Council, you must be:
- A Canadian citizen
- At least 18 years old
- A resident of the City of Quinte West; or
- A non-resident of Quinte West who owns or rents, or whose spouse owns or rents, property in the City
- In the case of school boards, a resident of the area of jurisdiction of the school board
- Not ineligible under the Municipal Election Act, Education Act or any other act, or otherwise prohibited by law to be nominated for or to hold office
How to file a nomination
Anyone interested in running for Quinte West Council is asked to book an appointment with the City Clerk’s Office to file a nomination. The deadline to register as a candidate is Friday, Aug. 21, 2026, at 2 p.m.
To book an appointment with the City Clerk, call the Quinte West election helpline at 1-343-303-0831 ext. 8683, “VOTE”.
The list of unofficial candidates will be available at quintewestvotes.ca/nominations and will be updated as nominations are filed. After the candidate nomination deadline closes on Aug. 21, 2026, the City Clerk will provide a list of candidates who have been certified to run in the election.
