The next municipal election is on Oct. 26, 2026.
You’ll vote to elect the next Mayor of Quinte West and your ward’s councillor(s) to serve during the 2026 to 2030 City Council term. You can also vote for your local school board trustees based on your school support.
Voting is your right and responsibility. The people who are elected will make important decisions that affect you and your community.
One (1) Mayor is elected at large by all voters
12 Councillors are elected by the eligible voters of each ward:
- Ward 1 – Trenton (5 Councillors)
- Ward 2 – Sidney (4 Councillors)
- Ward 3 – Murray (2 Councillors)
- Ward 4 – Frankford (1 Councillor)
School Board Trustees will also be elected. The board you are entitled to vote for is determined by your school support status, as shown on the Voter’s List. The school boards in the city of Quinte West are:
- Hastings & Prince Edward District School Board (2)
- Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board (1)
- Algonquin & Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (1)
- Peterborough Victoria Northumberland & Clarington Catholic District School Board (1)

Before you vote
You can vote in the 2026 municipal election if you are:
- A Canadian citizen
- At least 18 years old at the time of casting your ballot
- A resident in the City of Quinte West, or the owner or tenant of land in Quinte West, or the spouse of such owner or tenant
- Registered to vote
Elections Ontario is responsible for maintaining the voters’ list. The voters’ list is a list of individuals who are eligible to vote in provincial and municipal elections in Ontario.
Check, update or add your information to the voters list at registertovoteon.ca.
You must bring one of the following pieces of acceptable identification (ID) with you to the voting location:
- Ontario driver’s licence
- Ontario photo card
- Cancelled personalized cheque
- Insurance policy or statement
- Any other document included on the voter identification list
How to vote
In the 2026 municipal election, voters can vote:
- In person at a voting place, or
- Online

Online voting
Online voting is a quick, convenient way to cast your ballot. Online voting will begin Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, at 10 a.m. and continue until the end of Election Day (Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, at 8 p.m.). Eligible voters can vote online from anywhere, any time during the voting period.
Information and instructions on how to vote online will be available on your voter information letter, which you’ll receive closer to the voting period, and at quintewestvotes.ca.
In-person voting
Eligible voters can cast their ballot in person during advanced voting days (Oct. 14, 17 and 20) or on Election Day (Oct. 26). Voters are not assigned a specific voting location – any voter can visit any advanced or day-of voting location to cast their ballot.

FAQ
Everyone who is registered to vote for an upcoming municipal or school board election will be mailed a voter information letter containing important information about how they can vote.
Most people usually receive a voter information letter a few days before the start of early voting in the election.
You can only vote once, no matter how many homes or properties you own in the City of Quinte West.
Please visit Elections Ontario’s Register to Vote Portal to get added to the City’s municipal voters’ list, or to make changes to your eligibility information.
Non-residential property owners and tenants are allowed to vote for Quinte West’s City Council offices, but not for school board trustees. Only people who live in, own or rent residential property in Quinte West can vote for Quinte West’s local school boards.
You (or your spouse) must personally own or rent the property to qualify as a voter. If the property is owned or rented in your business’s name, you can’t vote.
Students who are temporarily living in Quinte West but live in another municipality when they are not at school are allowed to vote in both places. The same is true for students who live in another municipality when they are going to school but consider Quinte West to be their home outside the school year.
Students who don’t have other ID showing their Quinte West address can use a letter from their school verifying their student residence.
Yes. If you live in Quinte but don’t have a permanent address, the place where you have returned most often to eat or sleep in the past 5 weeks is considered to be your address.
If you don’t have ID showing your name and address, you can ask the administrator of the shelter, food bank, or community health care facility that you use most often to provide you with a signed confirmation of identity and residence.
Everyone who lives, owns or rents residential property in Quinte West automatically supports one of Quinte West’s local school boards and is entitled to vote for the trustee representing their board and district.
School board elections take place at the same time as regular municipal elections and are administered together by the City of Quinte West, which is why their offices appear on the same ballot.
Yes. In addition to election day (Oct. 26, 2026), you can vote online or in person during advance voting days throughout October.
Details about advance voting dates, times and locations will be shared closer to the election.
Voting locations and instructions will be provided:
- On your Voter Information Letter, if you receive one
- On the municipal election website
- Through municipal communications closer to the election
You will not be assigned a polling location. You can vote at any open voting place during advance voting days or on election day.
You can vote in more than one municipality if you qualify as an owner or tenant of property in multiple municipalities.
However, you may only vote once per municipality, regardless of how many properties you own there.
Municipal voters typically vote for:

- Councillors
- School board trustees
School board trustee positions may include:
- English Public
- English Catholic
- French Public
- French Catholic
Your ballot will depend on your school support designation.
To ensure your name is on the Voters’ List for the upcoming Municipal Elections and that the information is correct, visit the Clerk’s Office at Quinte West City Hall located at 7 Creswell Dr, Trenton, during normal office hours, or visit the Frankford Ward Office, 22 N Trent St., Frankford.
If your name is not on the Voters’ List or is shown incorrectly, you can make an application to the City Clerk requesting that the list be amended.

You can vote in the 2022 Quinte West municipal election if you are:
- A Canadian citizen; and
- 18 years of age or older; and
- A resident of the City of Quinte West; or

This year voting in the Quinte West Municipal Election will be done entirely online.
The final day to vote in the 2022 municipal election is Monday, Oct. 24, 2022. You can cast your ballot starting Oct. 11, 2022 at 10 a.m. through to Oct. 24, 2022 at 8 p.m.
This year, voting in the Quinte West Municipal Election will be done online! You can vote with ease from your personal computer, smartphone, or tablet. Public computers are also available for use at the Trenton and Frankford Quinte West Public Library branches where there is also free WiFi.

If you did not receive your Voter Information Letter (VIL) by mail by Oct. 11, 2022, please visit Quinte West City Hall (7 Creswell Dr., Trenton) or the Frankford Municipal Office (22 Trent St. N, Frankford) from Monday to Friday during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or one of the voter help centre locations listed below to be added to the Voters’ List or amend your information.
If your VIL contains incorrect information or if your PIN does not match your birthdate when you go to vote, call 1-343-301-4662 or email 2022electionhelpdesk@quintewest.ca, visit City Hall, the Frankford Municipal Office or a voter help centre.
You can find out which ward you live in by checking our ward map. This information determines which councillor(s) you can cast your vote for.
If you are experiencing homeless, or do not have a permanent address, you can still vote. Your qualifying address, which determines where you can vote, will be determined using the following rules:
- The place where you most often sleep or eat during the five weeks leading up to determining your residence for the purpose of the election.
- If you eat and sleep equally in two different places, the place where you sleep is your residence.
- If you go to the same place multiple times during the same day to eat or sleep, all visits will be counted as one visit.
Your written statement about the places where you go to eat or sleep during a period of time will be regarded as the truth, unless there is evidence to the contrary.
